An ileostomy, is yet another kind of ostomy performed, as body waste is not able to leave the body through the anus and rectum. This, as we know occurs in patients suffering from cancer, trauma, Crohn’s disease or an irritable bowel syndrome, where the intestines are unable to work effectively. An ileostomybag or pouch is then recommended to be used by patients. Post an ileostomy, the bag or pouching system is attached on to the stoma or the surgically created opening in a snug fit, thus creating an artificial method of collecting intestinal waste. This bag can either be made to order or be bought online. Appropriate care has to be taken upon draining the waste or when changing the bag.

Another pouching appliance that is advised and used by patients is an urostomy bag. This bag or pouching system is used by patients who have undergone an urostomy. This surgery, is one such surgery where urine is moved out of the body through a surgical opening, commonly referred to as the stoma. This is a surgery that is permanent and cannot be reversed. One should be aware that, like any other surgery, post-operative care for a urostomy is very important too. With the many changes the body goes through, it is but natural, that a person requires adequate time to heal, both in body and mind.

To adapt to a situation or circumstance where one must learn to accept and handle an ostomy, is not an easy task, especially when you know that there will be a change in the way your body functions. Hence, ostomy care is of prime importance where adequate care of the stoma must be taken. The stoma, as we now know is created surgically, helping divert either faeces or urine, depending on the ostomy.
